I have played though ‘super mystery dungeon’ and i’m about to beat ‘mystery dungeon explorers of time’.
I was really worried replaying these games due to the fear of them not living up to how I original viewed it.
super mystery dungeon: It had good ideas, too bad that the game was poorly programmed. Don’ get me wrong, this is by far the best game when it come to engagement with the game play. The problem stems from the game having horrendous power balancing issues along side nonsensical RNG (random number generator).
Just like the original ‘mystery dungeon red/blue’ this game feels like it could have been cable of so much more.
It felt like it was hampered by:
- what the 3ds was capable of.
- The size.
- Time constraints
There are loads of world destroying Pokemon, have some fun with the many different stories you could tell (Instead of giving me a tree of friend dungeons create a tree of expletive stories). You could even tie it all together with a story like:
A human collected every Pokemon, but they were treated as nothing more then trophies in there collections. You must now journey out and meet every Pokemon you mistreated in order to return back to your world.
Plot twist, by helping each Pokemon with there problems you are setting them free in your world. This creates conflict in the main lead when they have to set a legendary free into help his new world expand.
You could even work in the building mechanics from ‘gates to infinity’.
I could easily write a story for this game!
mystery dungeon explorers of time: After playing this again I can see exactly what ‘super mystery dungeon’ was trying to copy with its story. I think the reason why this game stands out from the two 3DS games is that it feel like it was the complete vision of ‘mystery dungeon red/blue‘. Unfortunately for the first game ‘mystery dungeon red’ had to be playable on a GBA (gameboy advance), while ‘mystery dungeon blue’ is a DS game.
I found myself getting more into the story thanks to the sprite being so simple, it forced me to imagine what was going on. With the 3d games that’s a a lot harder to do thanks to the emotionless models, they still show to a small image of what there feeling in a box…. but you can clearly see from the models that nothing is actually happening.
My next game to play is ‘gates to infinity’….at least the music is good.
Sorry for not posting in a long (family problems).
I want to bring this up because there seem to be some Pokemon obsessive who don’t understand why people say this.
gameexplain: “Totem Pokemon are hard, that in turn makes the game hard”
To me that’s just poor game balancing.
Sun/moon is REALLY poorly balanced game :
- It tells you what attack to use (even ‘let’s go’ doesn’t do this). *The game plays itself, your just pressing the confirm button each time.*
- States problems are rendered pointless. You can get rid of them with refresh at the end of each fight.
- z crystals are cool, but overpowered (This was unfortunately an issue that was created by X/Y).
X/Y Had a different balance problem:
- Mega evolution suddenly restricted what Pokemon were viably to fight with.
- Super training could potentially unbalance the game (It was dictated by what mini game you were good at). *’Let’s go’ fixed this by using candy.*
- It allowed you to excessively grow berries (Which rendered states problems pointless).
Unless you want to put a self imposed challenges on yourself, the modern games are really easy to brake.
I guess Sun/moon did try to tackle some of the issues in in X/Y, but by fixing them they also accentuated them.
Mega evolution = z crystals
Too many berries = refresh
Super training = Just tell the player what moves to use.
These 3 things need to become more restricted.
The last one could easily be solved with switch in the menu.
I’ve done it! I went though every Pokemon and created 7 charts.
I have lot of people bring up this topic, but they don’t really go that deep into why that’s the best/worst.
*What are ‘kind of’ designs? These are debatable Pokemon (they are not bad, but there not good).*
From this chart we can see that the fall in design quality actually started in started in Sinnoh.
My final findings were:
Unova, Kalos, Alola: They didn’t fail because they were bad, they failed because they played it too safe.
Johto surprising almost fell into this category; if it wasn’t for the table scraps of Kanto this entire region could of been a disaster.
What are your thoughts on this Data?
The problem with Pokemon games (my problems with ‘let’s go’).
XD I have a lot of frustrations with this game series.
^-o That dead line actually motivated me to reach my goal (I wanted to double my word count). one can easily loose focus when trying to compile all there thoughts into one document.
^-^ Think I’m getting close to doing the final draft!
Hope someone will want to read it when i’m done.
Additional: Going to be taking a weeks brake from this project (the next sections that I will be tackling is going to be a pain).
This project is moving slowly, I need to keep up my motivation in order to complete it. It’s hard to come up with ways to describe curtain topics at times.
I have had to go on long walks some days in-order to ponder over how to write it down.
^-o To make my life much easier I added a contents page.
Guess I could update (anyone who is interested) this blog on my progress every 2 weeks (might make me work faster).
Name of document: The problem with Pokemon games.
let it be known that I have a problem with ‘lets go’ and I have no problem writing a book about it.
Just boot up you 3ds and download pokedex pro.
Do you know what a QR code is? when was the last time you saw one?
The idea was to go around scanning codes to collect Pokemon into you dex. By doing this you got a augmented reality image of that Pokemon.
Here’s the problem, you already have all the Pokemon registered (it’s a pokedex) meaning there is no reason to look, along side the game showing you all the Pokemon QR code next to there entries (its taunting me).
Guess the other game you could play is dream radar, but that only works with black/white.
The only big problem I’m having with it on my 3DS is that it takes a long time to reload the game after an encounter (you get music while you stare at a black screen).
Popplio – Gaia
Pikipek – Samuel
Caterpie – Butters
Yungoos – Ivana
Ledyba – Croc
^-o The shop I got the game from gave me a Lunala key-chain for free.
MY HAND HURTS!
I’m currently have a lot of fun with this game (when i’m not playing kingdom item shop).
One of the modes I have been playing a lot of is called “endless mode”; you need to cut the grass fast while avoiding enemies and trying to grab power up grass.
The only problem is that you need to keep your finger on the R/L button while spinning like a madman with A (You can use B to cut but it’s not helpful when the clock is against you).
I never find games that need to keep my hands pressing the 3ds L/R button comfortable (The systems shape isn’t designed to let my hand rest in a comfortable position for long button mashing sessions).
p.s. my 3ds is called foop.
I have played over 8 hours Of this game so you can trust what I’m about to say.
This game plays itself! The only upside to all this is that there is a super speed up button (wish that was in publishers dream).
When I reached Level 70 I conducted an experiment: I made everything in the shop the top item for that shelf (lots of the same thing). I only got 1 or 2 complaints and the mood stayed at 100%.
At first the goals the game gives you are sensible and then after awhile they get ludicrous in a small attempt to extend the play time.
Y_Y All the trophy missions are ??????? so I have no idea how to unlock them?
- The game only crashed once.
- The outside of the shop would struggle to detect me selecting it (5 clicks before it registers the command).
- The game expects you to read the manual.
- A lot of mission are completed with random waiting.
Even if you don’t understand all the workings of this game you can beat this .
T_T The Mario vision of the game is really bland and clearly bundled with the other game to boost sales.
^_^ Puzzle & dragons Z on the other hand is really fun! You mach up little element balls in order to fight other monsters.
Do you know what in infuriates me when playing a game? pointless filler dialogue that slows down the pace of the game for no reason!
^_^ How could you say no to that cute plump white dragon?
*I would buy a game filled with plump cute 3d dragons (I shall bath him, cuddle him and make him fight for the survival of the plump dragon world).*
